Home Movie Day
Join the UWM Libraries for Home Movie Day on Oct. 24, from 1-5 p.m. by bringing family films to the Golda Meir Library Conference Center to be inspected, repaired, and screened for an audience. Hosted by the UWM Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections Department in partnership with the UWM Film Studies Program, this event is free and open to the public, including both individuals who would like to bring in their home movies, as well as those who simply wish to view the films.
The public is encouraged to bring in their home movies in 8mm, Super 8, 16mm, VHS, Mini-DV, or digital format. Participants who screen their home movies for the audience are welcome to provide narration.
Throughout the day, volunteers will provide quick explanations on how to care for film, video, and digital files, ideas on where to get old media transferred, tips for choosing a vendor, and other subjects. There will also be a recurring raffle and interactive games such as Home Movie Day Bingo, where participants will identify objects on screen for prizes!
Community members are welcome to drop in for Home Movie Day any time between 1 and 5 p.m. on Oct. 24 at the Conference Center located on the fourth floor of the Golda Meir Library at 2311 E Hartford Ave. in Milwaukee. Films will be screened on a first come, first served basis as projectors become available.
