Special Collections consists primarily of rare and special printed materials that hold long-term, historical research potential for UWM academic programs. The collections support a broad range of research and teaching activities in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Collection development for Special Collections is governed by a collection development policy.
Materials from Special Collections do not circulate, and the stacks are closed to researchers. But, the materials are still very accessible. The materials in Special Collections’ holdings may be searched in the library, across the country, or on the other side of the planet by using Search@UW, the UWM Libraries public access catalog.
If you have questions about Special Collections and its holdings, please call (414) 229-4345 or visit us on the fourth floor of the Golda Meir Library at 2311 E. Hartford Ave. During the academic year, public walk-in hours for Special Collections are Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Beyond these hours, Special Collections may also be accessed by appointment during regular library building hours. You can make an appointment by completing our online scheduling form or by contacting Special Collections at (414) 229-4345 or libspecial@uwm.edu.
