Video Story – Giovanna Found Independence and Security at UWM

A young woman wearing a backpack walks down a tree-lined trail.
Political science major Giovanna appreciates the independence that comes with going away to school, but also the support she’s found on UWM's campus.

As soon as Giovanna made the trip from her home in a suburb of Chicago to tour UWM’s campus, she knew she belonged there.

“I loved the look of campus buildings and bits of nature,” she says. “I love how enclosed the campus is. You still feel safe and part of that private university life, but you cross the street and you’re in the city.”

Giovanna, a political science major, appreciates the independence that comes with going away to school, but also the support she’s found on campus. She says UWM’s professors are always available.

“I think the most important is the fact that they have office hours so often here. The fact that the teachers are so willing to help you outside of their regular class time means a lot to me,” Giovanna says.
