Institutional Review Board (Human Subjects)

The Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews all human subjects research conducted by UWM faculty, staff, and students.

All submissions (new studies, amendments, continuing reviews, and determination forms) are reviewed in the order in which they were received. IRB office reviews are currently taking approximately 8-10 business days (1.5-2 weeks) from the date of submission. After that, your submission may be: 1) sent to a reviewer; 2) returned to you for revisions; or 3) approved.

Announcements

  • International Research Advisory: If you are planning travel to a country with a Level 3 or 4 travel advisory, please contact the Center for International Education (CIE). The CIE, through the Provost Office, is responsible for the International Travel Policy.  Under the policy, students are prohibited from traveling for UWM research purposes to countries at a threat level 3 or 4. However, if the PI and student researcher work with CIE, a waiver may be obtained in certain cases. CIE can help navigate the process and be a resource for you.
