Services provided:

Course Evaluations

The Testing & Course Evaluations section of OAIR provides course evaluation services to departments. Our services include help with survey development, data processing, and generating statistical reports including frequency, mean, median, mode and standard deviation.

Request Evaluation Service

You must complete and submit the Evaluation Processing Request. This request must be submitted to the Testing Center by the add deadline for the semester. After processing the evaluations, reports are shared via SharePoint. Only individuals with share permission will be able to access the reports. Evaluation data will be kept on file in the Testing Center for a period of two years. After that time, the data will no longer be available, and revisions cannot be made after that time. If you anticipate accessing reports after that time you will need to save them in your own directory.

The required format must be followed to ensure accuracy and timely turn-around. If you are planning to change the format of your departmental evaluations, you must contact Lisa Fugina Russell at lfugina@uwm.edu the semester prior to implementation.

Online Evaluation Services

Sending Course Evaluations
Two weeks before final exams, we will send out an email to students with a link to the evaluation. This email can include any incentive options made available to the students. It is helpful for instructors to alert their students beforehand that the email is coming and to encourage them to complete the evaluation and remind them that evaluations are confidential and used to improve instruction. Midway through the evaluation period, we will send students a reminder to complete the evaluation.

Sharing Evaluation Results
Evaluation reports will be processed and shared after grades have been submitted through SharePoint.

Exam Services
The Testing & Course Evaluations section of OAIR provides machine-scanning services for classroom exams. Standard scannable forms can accommodate up to 200 questions with 5 possible answer choices. Standard pdf reports include test statistics. Exam data is also available in an Excel file format. An email link for exam scoring results will be sent, and results are posted via SharePoint.

Please contact us at oair-testing@uwm.edu with any questions.

Requesting Exam Processing Service

Please make sure that exam requests are submitted well in advance.

  • The Request Form will need to be completed at least three calendar weeks in advance.
  • The request form must be completed prior to dropping off completed exam sheets.  Exams dropped off before a request form has been completed will have significant processing delay.
  • After submitting your request, please drop off the exam sheets in NWQB 5585. Exams can be dropped off to Lisa Fugina-Russell (Testing and Course Evaluation Administrator) in NWQB 5585 on Tuesdays & Thursdays between 9am-4pm. Alternatively, exams can be deposited into the mail slot in the door of NWQB 5585 at any time.
  • Given resource constraints and the need to provide timely feedback to students, it is strongly encouraged that instructors use other testing formats. Canvas functionality can be used for instructor-managed testing, with much more immediate response and processing. Please check with CETL for other online or electronic options.
Exam Format

To process exams, all submissions must be prepared according to the instructions listed below. Instructors submitting exams that do not meet these criteria will be asked to correct any issues and then re-submit the exams for scoring.

  • A request form must be completed prior to dropping off exams.
  • Exams must be submitted in an envelope that has the instructor’s name, course subject and section number(s) written on it.
  • Exams must have an answer key sheet. Have “key” and the professor’s name in the Name Field. This sheet needs to have the correct answers filled in. Darken in the circles for each correct answer using a #2 pencil.
  • Answer sheets must have the student’s name and answers filled out in pencil.
  • Answer sheets must be filled out with a #2 pencil to be read by the scanner.
  • Answer sheets should have no writing along the left-hand edge or the bottom of the sheet. These areas of the sheet contain marks that are essential for scanning.
  • Answer sheets must face the same direction.
  • Answer sheets should be flat and dry.
  • Answer sheets that are creased, wrinkled, or torn may not be scannable.

If your drop-off date is a Tuesday or Thursday, exams can be given directly to Lisa Fugina-Russell (Testing and Course Evaluation Administrator) in NWQB 5585 between 9am-4pm. Alternatively, exams can be deposited into the mail slot in the door of NWQB 5585 at any time on your drop-off date.

We will let you know when we are finished scoring the exams and generating the reports. Exams submitted on Thursdays, Fridays, and Mondays will be processed by Tuesday afternoon. Exams submitted on Tuesdays and Wednesdays will be processed by Thursday afternoon.

Please complete this form to order more answer sheets for future exams.

Multiple Sections: If you have a multiple section test, where you have more than one key and one version of the test, keep the sections separate. When you complete the Request form indicate the number of sections. Each section will produce separate reports.
