Below you will find frequently asked questions (FAQs) on the IST Career Discovery. If you have additional questions or need more information, please feel free to contact us!

How long will it take to complete the IST Career Discovery?

Each module is a little different, but the average time is about 15-20 minutes per module. That means you could complete 6 and earn your $1000 scholarship in about 2 hours.

How do I get the scholarship?

After completing at least 6 modules, and filling out the Scholarship Verification Form, the School of Information Studies will begin the process of posting the $1000 scholarship for the first year as a BSIST major at UWM. Students can expect the funds to be disbursed to PAWS just before the start of the fall and spring semesters ($500 each semester).

How do I apply to UWM as an IST major?

To apply to UWM, visit https://uwm.edu/undergrad-admission/apply/. Start by creating an account in the application portal, then follow the prompts to add UW-Milwaukee to your college list, then select Information Science & Technology as the program of study. Be sure to apply by March 1 for a fall start. You’ll receive information from UWM staff and IST advisors about next steps including new student orientation.

Do I have to finish all the modules in one sitting, or can I come back to finish it another time?

You do not need to finish all the modules in one sitting – you can come back as often as you’d like. To return to the site, visit https://uws-ce.instructure.com/courses/12722~3305 and login to pick up right where you left off. You can complete the IST Career Discovery over a day, week or year – your account will stay activated until you ask us to cancel.

I started with the registration form and got an email to set up an account, but what do I do next?

You’ll need to set up a student account in Canvas – follow the step-by-step guide.
