How To Use This Resource

The IST Career Discovery Site is available to high school and technical college instructors to use within their classrooms or share with their students.

How to Get Started: Step-by-Step Guide For Teachers

Quick-start Guide For Teachers and Students:

  1. REGISTER: Complete the brief “How to Get Started” webform at: https://uwm.edu/informationstudies/students/career-resources/career-discovery#register. CHECK YOUR EMAIL – Participants will receive an email within a few minutes from “School of Information Studies” with instructions, the course link, and a join code.
  2. SET-UP CANVAS ACCOUNT: Set-up a student account in the University of Wisconsin System (UWS) Learning Management System (Canvas):
https://uws-ce.instructure.com/register with Join code: 773RCE (Chrome is the prefered browser for CANVAS)
Note: Due to Canvas limitations all users (including teachers) will access the site with a student account. However, we can work with you to verify student completion.
  3. TO EARN BADGES: Students must add an active email address to their account to start earning badges
  4. STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS: Once a student has completed 6 modules, they may submit the Career Discovery Scholarship Verification Form to become eligible for a scholarship. An academic advisor from the School of Information Studies will reach out to the student with more details at that time.
