SOIS doctoral candidate Juliana Hirt and Assistant Professor Wan-Chen Lee presented their research at the 19th International ISKO Conference, held Aug. 17–19 in São Paulo, Brazil.
Their paper, “From Signals to Structure: Enriching Event Metadata for Optimized Data Ingestion,” explores how enriching event metadata can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of data ingestion in cloud computing environments.
The paper showcases the interdisciplinary strengths of SOIS research by bringing together perspectives from knowledge organization, data science, and cognitive science to address a critical challenge in cloud computing: improving the efficiency and effectiveness of data ingestion. By examining how event metadata can be enriched to better support data processing workflows, the research contributes to both theoretical and applied understandings of information organization in data-intensive environments.
This work is based on Juliana’s ongoing doctoral dissertation research and reflects SOIS’s commitment to fostering innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship.
