The history program invites students to explore the people, events, and ideas that have shaped our world.
Through courses spanning regions, cultures, and time periods, students develop critical thinking, research, and writing skills while learning to analyze evidence and understand the complexities of the past.
Whether preparing for careers in education, law, public service, business, or graduate study, history students gain the tools to ask meaningful questions, evaluate information, and communicate clearly. By studying history, students deepen their understanding of global societies and build skills that are valuable in nearly every profession.
We offer a major and a minor – both online or in-person or a mix of both types of classes! Our program offers maximum flexibility in choice of class format and in choice of courses. Students are required to take courses that cover historical content from different time periods and places but have many options within the categories.
The history department also offers several scholarships and awards to undergraduates and our majors are eligible for additional scholarships offered by the Dean’s Office for the College of Letters & Science.
