The knowledge and skills gained while studying geography can be applied to almost every problem facing our society today.

Policy makers, business leaders, social service providers, and economic developers – to name just a few – need to understand the connections and relationships between places and people, and between the physical world and society, in order to make sound decisions.

At UWM, students take coursework in physical geography, human geography, and geographic information science. Students who wish to focus on GIS can major in geography and minor in GIS within our department.

Our smaller program provides lots of faculty interaction and personalized attention.
