  • PhD Student, Educational Psychology: Educational Statistics and Measurement

John Baffoe is a doctoral student in Educational Statistics and Measurement at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee. His research centers on psychometrics, educational measurement, and large-scale international assessments, with particular attention to socioeconomic influences on student achievement, differential item functioning, and item response theory. He has conducted and presented research on factors contributing to reading achievement and item sequencing in assessments, sharing his work at international conferences, including the American Psychological Association (APA), American Educational Research Association (AERA), and the Sriwijaya University Learning and Education International Conference in Indonesia.

His current projects include investigating differential item functioning across English and Indigenous languages in South Africa using PIRLS 2021 data and examining school-level digital support and home factors as predictors and moderators of reading achievement in the United States. Together, these projects advance knowledge on how language and technology shape educational assessment and literacy outcomes in diverse contexts.

In addition to his research, John has extensive teaching experience in both the United States and Ghana, where he has instructed courses in educational statistics, research methods, measurement and evaluation, and mathematics at the undergraduate and graduate levels. He has also served as a research assistant on multiple projects involving survey development, qualitative interviews, data analysis, and reporting. His professional affiliations include the National Council on Measurement in Education (NCME), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
