This 4th research grant won by Function Therapeutics, valued at up to $413,908, is titled “Inhibitors of Thromboinflammation for Acute Kidney Injury”.

Function and the lab of Dr. Chris Dockendorff have collaborated with the MIDD for around 10 years. More recently, this new grant relies in part on the efforts of 3 current or former UWM students who are chemists with Function Therapeutics: Trevor Hagemann (Ph.D. 2022), Will Daugherty (B.S. 2022), and Emma Stutler. The goal is to study a new class of anti-inflammatories developed at Function Tx, called parmodulins, for their ability to prevent kidney injuries, which is a major problem for many patients undergoing cardiac surgery, and those fighting serious infections, including COVID.
