In recognition of the importance of high-quality impactful research as a strategic priority of the Lubar College of Business, up to $3,000 in Rapid Research Awards are available to full time faculty, academic staff members or PhD student dissertators, who are pursuing research projects targeted for publication in top-tier journals. For this awards program, a top-tier journal is defined as a journal listed in the UTD or FT50 lists, or one of comparable quality. Applicants seeking support for research not aimed at publication in journals in the UTD or FT50 lists must provide justification.

The funds will be in the form of S&E dollars that can be requested for gathering data to conduct research, procuring software for research, journal submission fee, and/or paying for student hourly support on a research project. Travel will typically not be supported by this award.

Eligibility

  • Only those who have exhausted other S&E funding support and who do not receive annual S&E funds as part of their contractual obligations are eligible for the award.
  • Requested funding must be related to initial work on a research project that is targeted at a top-tier journal, or revise and resubmit at a top-tier journal
  • No individual can receive more than two Rapid Research Awards in an academic year and should have fulfilled the requirements of previous awards received.
  • If an individual has already received Rapid Research Awards for up to two projects in a 5-year period, and both were rejected in the first round by a top-tier journal, additional funding would only be considered for a revise and resubmit from a top-tier journal.

Application Process

  • Brief statement on the specific purpose for which the funds will be used as well as the budget (one page maximum)
  • For applicants seeking funding on initial work, indicate the journal being targeted. For others, provide a copy of the review letter inviting revise and resubmit.
  • For applicants previously funded through this award, provide documentation to indicate that previous submission supported by this award was submitted to a top-tier journal.
  • Application should have the following statement included and be signed by the applicant:
I will use the funds for research expenses related to journal submission at a top-tier journal as defined in this policy.

The same project can be awarded multiple times, provided the project has advanced through the review process in a top-tier journal since the last award.
