The inspiration of two loyal Art History alumnae, the Friends of Art History (FOAH) was founded in the spring of 2000.

Purpose: To support the initiatives of the Department of Art History, especially the programming and operations of the Emile H. Mathis Art Gallery. ‘Friends’ are alumni, area arts educators, and art aficionados from throughout southeastern Wisconsin and beyond.

The Friends of Art History value the Department of Art History, the Mathis Gallery, and the UWM Art Collection’s pivotal role in training aspiring curators and art historians, and recognize its important niche in promoting an understanding of, and appreciation for, art history.

UWM Land Acknowledgement: We acknowledge in Milwaukee that we are on traditional Potawatomi, Ho-Chunk and Menominee homeland along the southwest shores of Michigami, North America’s largest system of freshwater lakes, where the Milwaukee, Menominee and Kinnickinnic rivers meet and the people of Wisconsin’s sovereign Anishinaabe, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Oneida and Mohican nations remain present.   |   To learn more, visit the Electa Quinney Institute website.
