Professional Experiences

Internships

Our location in Milwaukee is ideal for finding architecture and planning internships and opportunities. Plus, our faculty are active practitioners in their fields who are committed to helping you make connections. Students regularly intern with planning agencies, architecture and design firms, municipalities, community organizations and more.

Externships

Our externship program offers direct access to professional practice and serves as a strong pathway to post-graduation employment. Through short-term placements in architecture and urban planning organizations, you’ll gain exposure to a variety of firms and experiences, networking opportunities, and mentorship while building your professional network.

Networking Events

Architecture Interview Day

Hosted virtually on Handshake, architecture firms from across the region offer interviews for paid internships and full-time positions. Every year, we help over 75 firms connect with undergraduate and graduate students seeking permanent positions along with current students looking for summer opportunities and interview practice.

Career + Networking Event

Connect with peers, faculty, alumni and industry professionals at the SARUP networking event. Build relationships, exchange ideas and explore career opportunities in a setting designed to support your future in architecture and planning.

Norah Vogt

UWM SARUP makes it a priority to prepare students for their future careers. Even in my first year, I heard from numerous working architects about their careers. I have been connected to these architects for one-on-one conversations, which helped me to plan and visualize my future career.
