Welcome to UW-Milwaukee as a new freshman! Now that you’ve been admitted, your next step is to schedule an appointment for New Freshman Placement Testing. These tests are designed to place you in the most appropriate college level courses. Testing must be completed before you can register for New Student Orientation which is where you will sign up for classes. Dates fill quickly so please be sure to register and complete your tests as soon as possible!
Completing your placements tests is as easy as 1, 2, 3!
- Determine which placement tests you need to complete
All freshmen will be automatically registered for math and English* when they register for a test session as those two tests are mandatory for every new freshmen. Visit our FAQ page to determine if you need to complete any of the additional placement tests in foreign language or chemistry.
*If you grew up speaking a language other than English, English Placement Testing for Non-Native Speakers of English is offered during the English placement test at UWM on New Freshman Testing dates. If you have any questions about our English for Non-Native Speakers program, please contact Brooke Haley at HaleyB@uwm.edu.
- Register for your tests
You have options to complete your tests at a variety of locations; be sure to review and understand all of your options before you schedule a test date. You should complete your tests by the priority date of 5/1/17. Please note that after 5/1 dates and locations will be limited. Dates fill up quickly so be sure to register as soon as possible!
- Attend your test session
Arrive early to your test session for check in and be sure to bring a photo ID and non-graphing calculator. Note the location of your specific test session as test locations vary by date.
Activate Your ePanther ID
In addition to your acceptance letter, you received instructions for activating your ePanther ID at epantherid.uwm.edu. You’ll need an active ePanther ID to register for placement testing.
If you aren’t able to take your placement tests at UWM, you may be able to test at an offsite location. Both paper-based and computer formats are available. Learn about all of the different testing options available to you and register for your tests online.
