Chinese 301 – Fifth Semester Chinese (4 units, U)

The course focuses on the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing using a proficiency-based curriculum. Students will gain the four skills in standard (Mandarin) Chinese, moving toward approximately the Intermediate-Mid level on the ACTFL ETS (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scale.

Chinese 302 – Sixth Semester Chinese (4 units, U)

The sixth semester Chinese helps students solidify their command of the basic sentence patterns and develop the ability to read authentic texts. By taking this course, students will increase the sophistication of their oral and written expression, improve their reading and listening comprehension, and carry out daily conversations in culturally appropriate contexts. By the end of the course, students are expected to reach approximately the Intermediate-High level on the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) OPI (Oral Proficiency Interview) scale.

Chinese 401 – Seventh Semester Chinese (3 units, U)

This course aims to develop students’ language proficiency in Mandarin and enhance their understanding of current cultural and social issues through the multimedia textbook and articles provided. Students will develop the skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in standard (Mandarin) Chinese, moving toward approximately the Advanced-Low levels on the ACTFL ETS (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) proficiency scale.
