Official opening of the Bradley Wing in the newly constructed David Kahler building of the Milwaukee Art Center. Footage shows a well-heeled audience gathered for a ribbon cutting to view the new wing and the exhibition of the Mrs. Harry L. Bradley Collection, a collection of twentieth-century masters of all media donated by Margaret (“Peg”) Bradley, who also gave 1 million dollars for the building addition. Bradley is presented with a gift by Milwaukee County Executive, John Doyne, that acknowledges her as “The First Lady of Art” with her portrait, and then they are accompanied by Milwaukee Mayor Henry Maier to cut the ribbon. The collection, promised to the Center in 1970 by Bradley and then valued at 11.5 million dollars, elevated the status of what would become the Milwaukee Art Museum from a local art museum to a museum with a world-class collection. Some footage shows a partial view of a red mobile by Alexander Calder.
