Ross Lewis Editorial Cartoons 2

Title:
Summary:

Historical review of editorial cartoon themes with Ross Lewis. This segment is a continuation from the previous, in which George Lockwood (the Journal picture editor) and Lewis meet before an easel to discuss his career by examining specific drawings. It focuses on topics germane to Wisconsin life and people and Milwaukee like the Elks Club, commercialism, winter driving and highway traffic jams. Lewis concludes the interview stating that through the course of his career, he has drawn between 11,000 to 12,000 cartoons and his creative inspiration was derived from constantly reading about current events.

Lewis was the political cartoonist for the Milwaukee Journal, and he won a Pulitzer Prize for his anti-Nazi editorial cartoon in 1935. This news reel coincided with The Cartoons of R. A. Lewis, Milwaukee Journal published in 1968.

SR210 is the first of two reels on Ross Lewis.
