Union Cinema is screening the 1985 film Desert Hearts on Thursday, November 04, 2021 at 7:00 pm. This romantic drama was directed by Donna Deitch and is a screenplay adaptation written by Natalie Cooper of the 1964 novel Desert of the Heart by Jane Rule.

The film, which stars Helen Shaver and Patricia Charbonneau with a supporting performance by Audra Lindley,  tells the story of a university professor awaiting a divorce who finds her true self through a relationship with another, more self-confident woman.

On Rotten Tomatoes, Desert Hearts has a 96% approval rating based on 23 reviews, with an average score of 7.5 out of 10. In 2020, The A.V. Club named Desert Hearts one of the 50 most important American independent films
