page showing benefits of internship

Internships provide hands-on experience for undergraduates to learn about career options first hand. They are particularly important for WGS majors since the degree can be taken in so many different career directions.

Students are encouraged to engage in multiple internships, volunteer positions, and part-time jobs while in college so they can see different work environments, job tasks and job realities. This information helps a student better define their post-college job search.

Students in Women’s & Gender Studies can earn up to six credits in WGS 489: Internship in Women’s & Gender Studies. Previous students have interned at the Women’s Resource Center, LGBTQ+ Resource Center, Courage MKE, Planned Parenthood, and more!

Internships are a great way to explore careers outside of the classroom! Prospective interns should have junior standing and completed WGS 200 or 201 prior to their internship semester. If interested, reach out to Morgan Foster, WGS Undergraduate Advisor and Program Coordinator, with questions or complete this survey to apply.
