Sarah Schaefer is a historian of modern art and visual culture. She is the author of “Gustave Doré and the Modern Biblical Imagination” (Oxford University Press, 2021). Her research interests include religious kitsch, technologies of reproduction, the history of archaeology, and fantasy visual cultures.
