Rebecca Shumway is an associate professor in the Department of History at UW-Milwaukee. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history and African studies from Northwestern University and both her master’s and doctoral degrees in history from Emory University.

 

Her research interests lie in African history, and in particular Ghana, slavery, the slave trade and cultural identity. She has published numerous articles, book chapters, and books on these topics including The Fante and the Transatlantic Slave Trade (2011).
