Neighborhood & Community Relations

As the liaison to the neighborhoods surrounding campus, we work with city and local officials and serve as a resource for neighbors who are looking to connect to the university. Services include:

Neighborhood Relations

We respond to calls and emails from neighbors who have questions or concerns about activity in the neighborhood, ranging from student behavior to construction challenges to general inquiries about the university. We also share information about UWM events and other areas of interest through the Notes to Neighbors newsletter and email distribution. Sign up to get the latest news.

Walk to Work

Looking to settle on Milwaukee’s vibrant East side? We offer tours of the neighborhood and can help new faculty and staff find a home nearby through our regularly updated list of neighborhood properties for sale or rent.

Municipal Issues

We work with the Milwaukee Police Department, the Department of Neighborhood Services, Department of Public Works, and local neighborhood associations on important issues in the neighborhoods.

Campus Engagement

We partner with many offices on campus to bridge the town-gown gap, including programs such as UNITE (University-Neighborhood Initiative To Engage), which brings faculty and staff volunteers to visit student residences in a 100-block area to welcome them to the neighborhood each fall.

Neighborhood Housing Office

The UW-Milwaukee Neighborhood Housing Office provides direct outreach and advising to help students find quality off-campus housing and roommates through education, referral and support. We promote healthy living and social responsibility to connect students with UWM and the surrounding neighborhoods.
