Project Description
Objectives: 1. Examine how disinformation narratives, like memes and hashtags, evolve into cultural artifacts 2. Decoding Troll Strategies: Analyze how troll accounts from MAGA and Russian campaigns craft persuasive content to influence opinions and exploit cultural divides. The methodology will integrate quantitative and computational techniques, integrating the theoretical frameworks of disinfolklore and decoding trolls.
Tasks and Responsibilites
The student will conduct 1. Social Media Data Retrieval: Use tools like CrowdTangle or Twint to collect content from social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Facebook) related to Wisconsin political discourse, MAGA narratives, and Russian disinformation. as well as 2. conduct account monitoring: Identify and track potential troll accounts or bots using tools like Botometer or Hoaxy. 3. perform qualitative coding: Assist in coding social media content to identify recurring themes, cultural symbols, and rhetorical strategies.
