Project Description
Software development for outdoor kinetic sculpture is an opportunity to work with internationally known Milwaukee sculpture artist (and UWM BA and MFA graduate). The artist has been elected Artist of the Year by the Milwaukee Arts Board and has won other awards in the US and abroad. The artist has conceived a series of kinetic outdoor sculptures that will capture solar energy to produce visual and auditory experiences that are responsive to the received sunlight. The software component will monitor insolation (incident solar energy), select and execute the visual performance, permitting the artist to create and record the desired performance. This project is an opportunity to mentor a student in a real-world software development project, requiring skills in interpreting design documents, implement modules, designing test plans, testing and integration, while engaging myself and the student with the Milwaukee community in a novel way. Objective: Advance the software system for the solar sculpture, guided by a detailed software design document.
Tasks and Responsibilites
Define, implement, test, validate and integrate needed software modules. Software will be tested on a prototype system developed in part by past SURF students.
