Multiliteracies, Languages, and Cultures Resource Library Project

Community Engagement & Professions (College of) / Curriculum & Instruction / Education (School of)

Project Description

The Multiliteracies, Language and Cultures Committee (MLC) is a group of faculty and academic staff formed within the department of Teaching and Learning in the School of Education (SOE) to collaborate across programs and disciplines. We currently have a library space that houses several sets of curriculum materials and envision repurposing this space to promote programatic collaboration. The objectives for this project are 1) to identify the various program wants and needs related to the creation of a Multiliteracies, Languages and Cultures Library, 2) to investigate app models for cataloging and tracking materials and resources, and 3) to research options for partnering with the UWM Golda Meir Library around making accessible curriculum resources for SOE students.

During the spring and summer of 2019, we accomplished our first three objectives and would like to continue work on a fourth objective: organizing and cataloguing the library materials for student and instructor use. In addition, we have begun construction of a web page with SOE marketing to increase access to the library’s online catalogue and provide an overview of the library’s resources. The methodology of research will involve interviews with various stakeholders in the department and on campus as well as literature review.
