Evaluation of New Imidazobenzodiazepines Using Pre-clinical in Vivo Studies

Letters & Science (College of) / Chemistry & Biochemistry

Project Description

The objective of this research is to evaluate new drug candidates in vivo. The methodologies used include a rotarod test, and open field test and mouse model of atopic dermatitis. The student will learn to support a healthy mouse colony. Once new mice arrive at the facility.

Tasks and Responsibilites

The student will train these mice to balance on a rotating rod and get used to volunteer peanut butter administration. The student will also perform an open field test to evaluate the behavior changes after compound administration. Sensorimotor inhibition will be tested with the rotarod test. The student will also help my graduate student to perform a mouse model of atopic dermatitis. This includes the analysis of videos to score the number of scratches for a 30-minute period. The student will also assist in the administration of compounds formulated in peanut butter. The student will present data at our biweekly research meeting and present the research at the UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium in Spring.
