Project Description
The objective of this research project is to develop low-cost, reliable, colorimetric soil moisture sensors with zero power consumption. We have recently developed full range (0-100% relative humidity), highly sensitive colorimetric humidity sensors based on thin film interference. In this study, we plan to investigate the feasibility of using such colorimetric humidity sensors for soil moisture sensing.
Tasks and Responsibilites
1. Prepare and characterize colorimetric humidity sensors.
2. Prepare soil samples with known moisture levels.
3. Establish the empirical relationship among the soil moisture level, relative humidity, temperature, and colorimetric humidity sensor colors.
