Project Description
The objective of this research project is to evaluate whether participation in the Aging Together program helps reduce internalized/relational ageism and depressive symptoms, and improve self-efficacy, purpose in life, social connectedness, and cognitive function among adults 50+ years of age. For the methodology, we are conducting a longitudinal study via 30-minute surveys at four time points: A pre-survey, post-survey, 1 month follow-up survey, and 3 month follow-up survey. The surveys gather background demographic information and utilize previously validated scales to measure our outcomes of interest. We also audio record each program session and complete a fidelity checklist based on the audio recordings to ensure the program is being implemented as intended.
Tasks and Responsibilites
The student would help with data collection at program sessions by providing sign-in sheets, collecting audio recordings, and providing refreshments for participants. The student would help with facilitating 30-minute surveys either in-person or by phone. The student would also listen to audio recordings of program sessions and complete fidelity checklists. The student may also help with recruitment by handing out flyers at community events. Finally, the student may assist in providing community-engaged presentations to share back the research findings with participants.
