Parnian Vakili

Parnian Vakili is an undergraduate research student double-majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology and Neuroscience, with a minor in Chemistry. She began her research under the mentorship of Dr. Claire de la Cova, studying the role of Extracellular Signal-Regulated Kinase (ERK) in animal development. Through the MCW Cancer Center and UWM Undergraduate Research Program, Parnian joined Dr. Nikki Lytle’s lab in 2023, where she is currently investigating the role of Midkine in pancreatic cancer liver metastasis. She has presented her work at several conferences, including the UWM Undergraduate Research Symposium, the WiSER Conference, the National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), the UW Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarly and Creative Activity, and the Midwest Tumor Microenvironment Conference. 

Beyond the lab, Parnian also serves as president of The Honors Association for Research and Presentation (HARPY), where she leads film discussions and organizes two annual conferences showcasing undergraduate research in the arts, humanities, and social sciences. Outside of academics, she enjoys baking and sharing her latest creations with family and friends. After completing her undergraduate degree, she plans to pursue medical school, with the long-term goal of integrating her passion for scientific research with patient care.
