Project Description
Our research delves into the understanding of physical spaces by pre-modern Chinese villagers, particularly how they inhabited and utilized areas for ancestral burial. Using advanced AI technologies such as Computer Vision, we analyze tens of thousands of village and graveyard maps to discern patterns in how people situated their homes and graves within the landscape. This method, coupled with in-depth analysis of select maps and texts, reveals an overlooked dimension of Chinese cosmology at the local level.
Tasks and Responsibilites
Data standardization (resizing the images to uniform size and dimension); manual data annotation (marking up all the mountains on the maps); supervision of automated labeling; preliminary data analysis
