Architecture, Activism, and Outreach in the Sarup Gallery: “Spatializing Reproductive Justice,” “Supreme Privacy,” and More

Architecture & Urban Planning (School of) / Architecture

Project Description

For architecture students, the campus gallery provides a crucial educational space introducing alternative ways of learning from the conventions of the studio, the classroom, and professional practice. It engages students beyond canonical pedagogy and curriculum, especially when it hosts shows that explore how architecture shapes and is shaped by broader socioeconomic, cultural, and political forces. At SARUP, our gallery has become this space for hosting stimulating and challenging work for our students, but it warrants more direct student engagement and participation in the planning, preparation, and programming of the gallery schedule to maximize its impact. The Events & Exhibitions faculty committee will work with 2 student researchers to curate, program, and install exhibits.

Tasks and Responsibilites

With an emphasis on activism and non-traditional professional practice, student researchers will conduct research to help plan/curate exhibitions and help with outreach and programming to activate the gallery.
