Project Description
The objective of this project is to explore the cutting-edge research in applying robotics technologies in modern electric power systems. More recently, intelligent robots or drones are being deployed for a wide range of applications in electric power systems, such as autonomous inspection and condition monitoring of utility substations and automatic inspection and fault diagnosis of transmission lines. Such robotic technologies are promising to improve the efficiency and save labors. This project will perform a comprehensive literature review, identify the opportunities and challenges, and develop actionable insight into this emerging field.
Tasks and Responsibilites
The chief research tasks are listed as below:
1. Perform a comprehensive literature review in the field, including the leading-edge robotic technologies and their latest applications in electric power systems.
2. Identify the potential opportunities and challenges for this emerging field. As this field is still in its infancy, a holistic view is needed to move this field forward.
3. Develop actionable insights which may be used to further research and development in this field.
4. A high-quality technical report is expected as a deliverable from this SURF project, which demands huge effort from the team.
