Effectiveness of Telehealth Group for Improving Peer Relationships for Adolescents with NF1

Project Description

This is a study of the effectiveness and acceptability of a 14 week telehealth intervention to support the development of social skills related to making and keeping friends. There are two parts: 1) Open trial with 8 families of children with NF1; 2) Pilot randomized control trial with 19 families of children with NF1. Once participants have been screened for eligibility, the studies involve the following stages: Pretest (questionnaires), 14 week intervention sessions (parent and teen in parallel), Post-test (questionnaires), 16 week follow-up (questionnaires).

Tasks and Responsibilites

Depending on experience and interests, students may be involved with the following tasks: (a) behavioral coach role in weekly parent and/or teen groups (when they are in session) (b) assist with post-test and follow-up appointments with families for questionnaire completion and with data management and data entry. (c) focus on summarizing the data from specific portion of the research protocol (e.g., degree of different kinds of symptomatology, acceptability of the intervention, impact of the intervention on outcomes).
