Synthesis of Glucuronides

Letters & Science (College of) / Chemistry & Biochemistry

Project Description

The objectives of this research is the development of a synthesis for glucuronides. The methodology is based on the synthesis of allyl glucuronide which will be reacted with different carboxylic acids containing compounds including our asthma compound MIDD0301.

Tasks and Responsibilites

The student will learn to perform different chemical syntheses, workup procedures and purification techniques. These will be applied toward the synthesis a small library for acylglucuronides. These compounds are highly soluble in water and necessitates the application of solid phase extraction using C18 affinity columns. Daily guidance is provided by graduate students and faculty. The student will present research data during weekly group meetings. In addition, the student is tasked to write a report and submit a summary by the end of the summer. Poster session organized by the department of school will give students the opportunity to present their work. The student will keep a clean work area and abide to UWM safety regulation.
