UWM has made strides in water conservation and stormwater management for the betterment of Lake Michigan. Green infrastructure is utilized in multiple ways to collect and slow down the impact on Milwaukee’s combined sewer system. These efforts aid in managing neighborhood basement backups, flooding, and combined sewer overflows. Academic and research programs, such as at the School of Freshwater Sciences, also support local and global efforts to better understand and address complex water issues.
