At times, sustainability moves beyond the borders of the UW-Milwaukee campus. Whether it be student pathways or literally the roads that bring you to campus, sustainability is part of the rich community connections that UWM is known for.
Wisconsin Climate Action Navigators
The Office of Sustainability participates in the statewide Wisconsin Climate Action Navigators Network (WI-CAN), support by the Wisconsin Office of Sustainability and Clean Energy. The collective action initiative supports community leaders in achieving climate goals and supports cross-sector collaboration.
Volunteering with Sustainability
One of the most vibrant ways to engage with campus sustainability is through our volunteer programs, especially if you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Most volunteer opportunities occur between April and October, supporting stewardship of campus gardens, native landscapes, and green infrastructure spaces. Learn more and register here.
Bike, Bus, and Bublr Your Way to Campus
Building on long-standing partnerships with the community, City of Milwaukee, and local organizations, UWM is committed to building an active and engaged community around alternative and safe transportation. UWM’s transportation needs are not bound by the campus borders. UWM’s presence is needed throughout the city, to meet the needs of its students, faculty, and staff. UWM’s Transportation Services partners closely with the Milwaukee County Transit System, and Student Affairs and Sustainability have collaborated with local bike share program, Bublr Bikes, since 2015. The campus governance structure also includes the Transportation Sub-Committee, connecting faculty, staff, and students to transportation needs. UWM continues to show support for other universities and all citizens of the Milwaukee community that want access to safe and healthy streets.
Tours and Speaking Engagements
The Office of Sustainability staff hold a wealth of knowledge and experience in sustainability thinking, implementing operational efficiencies, and creating meaningful collaborations. We review special requests for speaking engagements and campus tours on a case-by-case basis, based on schedules, capacity, and alignment. Contact ask-sustainability@uwm.edu to inquire.
