Susan has been the Campus Alcohol & Other Drug Coordinator at UWM since 2014 and currently serves as the Interim Director of Health Promotion & Wellness. She is a resource for students, faculty, staff and parents seeking information or assistance concerning alcohol or other drugs and college students. Susan can help with education programs and training; brief interventions to help students explore their drinking or other drug use and reduce risks for harm; how to approach conversations with someone for whom there is concern; support for students in recovery; and UWM’s tobacco-free campus and other alcohol/drug policies.

In her work with students, Susan practices partnership, acceptance and compassion. She understands that students are experts on themselves and invites them to explore their own motivation, ideas and capacity for health-promoting behaviors. She is dedicated to a public health approach to create a health-promoting campus that helps all students to reach their full potential for health and well-being.

Susan’s career in the field of college health promotion spans 20 years at three universities. Susan has a bachelor’s degree in Health Promotion and Wellness from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point and a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Illinois at Chicago. Susan is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.
