A partnership with the WiscAMP STEM-Inspire Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Milwaukee Film, “The Collaborative Connection” is a unique mentorship experience for local youth, mirroring what young professionals encounter in their careers.

Through short, 20-minute rotations, high school students from Howard Fuller, MPS Community Schools, and Milwaukee Academy of Science connect with an esteemed group of experienced mentors offering expertise in various STEAM-related fields. Participating students will be split into cohorts based on academic interests and encouraged to share their education and career goals with their group. The combination of peer group interaction and candid feedback will foster an engaging opportunity for future leaders to articulate their aspirations and set clear goals without fear of ridicule or judgment.

The morning begins with a brief welcome and keynote from Donald Driver, former professional football player and leader of the Donald Driver Mentoring Program in partnership with Goodwill Industries. Students will then engage in a level setting short film and conversation led by Milwaukee Film followed by “speed-dating” style breakout sessions to follow. We end the morning’s events with a luncheon networking session, allowing students to fellowship with like-minded achievers from different schools while fostering a sense of belonging among their peers.

OUR ASK: We need 15 STEM professionals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds to participate for at least one hour in our “speed mentoring” roundtables, scheduled from 10:00 am-11:00 am. We hope you can arrive by 9:45 am and share with students information about your STEM major/occupation, what is required to enter that field, why you selected that major/occupation, and anything else that will inform the students about potential career pathways in STEM.
