As a child, Ansa Joseph dreamed of working in law enforcement.

But after she graduated from Cudahy High School in 2019, Joseph’s dream felt out of reach. She and her family had immigrated to the United States from Kerala, India, a few years earlier, and Joseph was unsure how to pursue such a career, especially in a new country.

“Everybody in my family is an engineer or in health care,” Joseph said. “I am the first one interested in law enforcement. They wanted to help me, but they didn’t know how.”
