Custodians need to be aware of the complex and sensitive history of human anatomical specimens in research & teaching. They are encouraged to seek additional training as relevant to ensure they are educated on the ethical context for human anatomical specimens in their possession and are able to promote ethical use. 

  1. Submit a Custodian of Human Anatomical Specimens Application form

    Your application must include your prior experience & qualifications, justification for use of human anatomical specimens, designated spaces for use & storage of specimens, and an appropriate backup contact.

  2. Receive approval from your immediate supervisor and Dean

    Your supervisor and Dean will review your qualifications, the justification for use, and the appropriateness of the backup contact. They have authority to approve or deny the proposed use of human anatomical specimens.

  3. Receive approval from US&A

    US&A will review the appropriateness of spaces designated for use & storage of specimens. A visit to these spaces may be required.

  4. Custodian request is approved

    Formal approval notification will be provided to all relevant contacts. The Custodian may begin updating their inventory and receiving approved specimens.
