Nathan Benz is a senior Design and Visual Communication student at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, ready to take on whatever the future entails. Nathan’s particular strengths include taking risks, staying positive, always showing up with a smile, creative exploration, process documentation, and incorporation of photographic imagery in dynamic ways. He is always looking for opportunities to utilize these skills to make a positive impact in the world. Nathan is particularly inspired by black and white photography, and minimalistic pieces. He also has a soft spot for dogs and cute baby smiles.

Project Description

LAYER is a brand and a movement. It addresses our overconsumption of energy, in particular the energy used daily for heating homes. LAYER’s goal is to inspire young consumers to use less energy (in the form of heat) and layer clothing as an alternative. LAYER motivates and informs young consumers how to make responsible energy consumption choices within their day to day fashion choices.

Research Question

How can design create self awareness in personal consumption of energy among young consumers in the US?
