Before each semester, UWM hosts New Student Orientation (NSO) programs to which admitted, incoming, first-year students are invited after they have taken placement tests, paid their freshmen fee, and submitted their University Housing contract and deposit (or exemption form).

During each NSO session, time is set aside for academic advisors to meet with students to assist them in navigating the UWM course enrollment system (PAWS) to enroll in their first semester classes. Students leave NSO with a printed copy of their first semester schedule. Our professional advisors guide students throughout their entire time on campus. Identify your advisor and view our undergraduate degree programs to access course requirements and curriculum plans for each of the majors available in the School of Rehabilitation Sciences & Technology (RST).

After NSO, you may have questions. Your advisor will be sure to leave you with their contact information, so you may reach out to them at any time. While it is possible for you to make changes to your schedule after leaving NSO, we strongly discourage you from making any changes without first consulting with your advisor.

During your first semester at UWM, RST students are required to meet with their advisor before enrolling for their second semester. Your first appointment will be an opportunity for you to meet one-on-one with your advisor to ensure that you are starting off on the right foot. We want to have an opportunity to become more familiar with your academic goals and share with you all of the services available to students in RST.

You may schedule an individual appointment with your advisor at any time throughout the academic year. In fact, advisors encourage all students to schedule an advising appointment at least once per semester to help students stay on track with their degree requirements. Call 414-229-5047 or visit Cunningham Hall, Room 135 to schedule a one-on-one appointment after you have attended NSO.

We look forward to welcoming you to UWM at New Student Orientation!
