The online courses in the Certificate in Therapeutic Recreation will help you to meet the therapeutic recreation academic coursework eligibility requirements to become a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS). The six courses/18 credits are outlined under the Curriculum section. Please note there are eight total courses listed. Six of the courses meet the standards requirements for the CTRS exam. These courses have an asterisk after the title of the course.

Students are responsible for meeting the remaining requirements to be eligible to sit for the CTRS certification exam independent of the TR Certificate Program. The requirements include a minimum of a bachelor’s degree, supportive coursework and paid direct care experience in TR. Please refer to the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) Certification Standards for more information.
