Over 1 Million Dollars in Grants Received

In the Rehabilitation Research Design and Disability Center (R2D2) Dr. Roger O. Smith has received 2 grants. The first grant is a grant for building accessibility in the community which started September of 2023 and goes until September of 2028 for a total amount of 1 million dollars. The goal for this grant is to provide accessibility ratings to avoid the barriers that people with disabilities face that hinder community engagement.  The next grant Dr. Smith received was for Opening the Door for Accessibility Rating in the Community: Stage of Adoption”. This grant started September of 2023 and goes until September of 2026 for a total amount of 600,000 dollars. Both grants for Dr. Smith are collaborated with the Universities of New Mexico, Columbia, Marquette, and Independence First.

Dr. Bhagwant Sindhu at UWM received a grant for the feasibility study of multifaceted resilience training for Emergency Medical Service Providers. Dr. Sindhu is partnered with Dr. Riccardo Colella, co-investigators Robert Wilson and David Drapes, as well as project consultant Jen Murray. Other advisory board members include Virginia Stoffel, Lance Weinhardt, and James Topitzes. The grant will begin in January and last for a full year with a total amount of roughly 50,000 dollars. The goal of the grant is to give access to trauma-responsive resilience-training including breathing exercises and mindfulness-practice to reduce stress, burnout and prevent any future issues for the well-being of EMS providers.
