Interests & Expertise

Dr. Lynch’s research interests include the design, implementation and maintenance of health care databases and information systems, as well as the operations and personnel management of those systems. Specifically, his research involved the personality traits and leadership styles of health care administrators.

He is a manuscript reviewer for the annual Health Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting, and also for the American Medical Informatics Association’s (AMIA) Annual Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care.

Dr. Lynch retired in 2009 after serving 29 years as a faculty member, Program Director, Department Chair, and Associate Dean. Dr. Lynch was the Program Director of the Health Information Administration Program that would eventually become the Department of Health Informatics and Administration. He also served as Chair of the Department of Health Science, which included programs in Health Information Administration, Health Sciences, Clinical Lab Sciences and Occupational Therapy. As Associate Dean in the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Lynch developed the Master of Science in Health Informatics. This was an interdisciplinary program in cooperation with the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the School of Library and Information Studies, the School of Nursing, and Information Technology Management in the School of Business Administration. He retired as Director of the MS Health Care Informatics Program. He also participated in the development of the PhD Health Informatics Program in the College of Engineering and Applied Science and served on its advisory Committee.
