National History Day is more than a day; it is a process, a creative outlet, and a confidence-building experience. This is an opportunity to think beyond the textbook in your social studies classroom and develop a memorable project.
The UWM Archives offers in-person and virtual instruction and research assistance for NHD students. Teachers who want to bring a group of students to the UWM Archives for NHD research should consult our Reference and Instruction Archivist, Abbi Nye.
Why come to the UWM Archives?
We offer individualized research assistance for NHD students, whether their topics are related to Wisconsin history or not. Working with archivists can help students to expand or develop their bibliographies; many teachers who bring groups of students to the UWM Archives provide student topics in advance so that the Archives staff can gather grade-appropriate physical and digital primary sources for the students. During visits, we present a brief introduction to analyzing primary sources and then work directly with students in hands-on research.

- October: confirm visit dates for your class and any research assistance that will require advance preparation
