Son-Mother: Screening and Discussion of Iranian director Mahnaz Mohamaddi’s 2019 film

Iranian director and women’s rights activist Mahnaz Mohammadi’s 2019 film Son-Mother depicts Leila, a single working mom of two who loses her factory job. Kazem, the factory bus driver, proposes marriage to Leila, but she hesitates to accept his conditions that will break her family apart. After the film screening, stay for a discussion of this recent film and its possible connection to the ongoing revolution in Iran.

Filmmaker Mahnaz Mohammadi is an Iranian filmmaker and women’s rights activist. Her work has led to her arrest three times on charges related to Iranian national security and propaganda against the state with her most recent conviction sending her to the infamous Evin Prison in Tehran.
