Planning Your Publishing Career – A Virtual Roundtable

March 28 @ 11:30 am - 12:45 pm

Learn from a panel of local and national book publicity experts about how to plan for a career in the publishing world. The event will overview how each panelist started their career in publishing and offer advice for students (undergrad and grad) on how to prepare now to land your dream publishing job. A question and answer session will conclude the event.

This event is free and open to all students at UWM to attend. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/planning-your-publishing-career-tickets-856238932697?aff=ebdsoporgprofile (Please note that if the event says it is sold out, folks can still attend.)

Panelists include:

Robyn Massey is a senior publicist at Columbia University Press. She transitioned into the academic university publishing industry four years ago, after serving as the vice president/chief communications officer for two top global public relations firms. At CUP, she handles publicity for the science and business portfolio—including topics that range from climate, neuroscience, and paleontology to investing, innovation and leadership–all nonfiction, by leading thinkers in science, business, academia, and research. She grew up in rural Missouri and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Asian Studies from the University of Missouri at Columbia. She lives in New York City with her family.

Jasmine Gonzalez is the Managing Editor at Porchlight Book Company. She began her career as a communications strategist for social justice advocacy organizations such as the ACLU of Wisconsin and Voces de la Frontera before finding her way into the world of books. She focuses on promoting new and upcoming nonfiction books, particularly those authored by individuals from marginalized backgrounds or published by smaller presses. She has a BA in Political Science and History with a minor in Writing-Intensive English from Marquette University and an MS in Nonprofit Management and Leadership from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Originally from the Chicagoland suburbs, she’s been a proud Milwaukeean since 2011 and lives in Bay View with her fiancé.

Nina Nocciolino is Managing Director of Cave Henricks Communications, a full-service media relations and consulting firm for nonfiction authors and thought leaders. She has spent nearly 15 years in publishing—including time at Penguin Random House, Penguin Young Readers, and Harvard Business Review Press—working with some of the most influential minds in business, academia, and research. She has a BA in Journalism from Northeastern University and an MA in Publishing from New York University. She resides in upstate New York with her family.
